Captou a atenção do excêntrico mas não egoísta Howard Hughes, que tratou de partilhar com o mundo a voluptuosidade de Jane Russell no polémico western THE OUTLAW (1943). A lenda do "soutien especial" que Hughes encomendou para realçar o busto da actriz está, ainda hoje, por conhecer legitimidade...
Convertida em imediato sex symbol dos anos 40 e 50, a sua carreira ficaria marcada por essa áurea de sensualidade, que espelhou em títulos como OS HOMENS PREFEREM AS LOIRAS (1953) e THE REVOLT OF MAMIE STOVER (1956), dois autênticos filmes de culto para os apreciadores da actriz.
Faleceu hoje, aos 89 anos, em Santa Maria (Califórnia).
